MEDIA - NEWSPAPERS
Can you name some of the daily national newspapers in Britain?
Each of the national papers can be categorised as either a 'quality paper' or 'broadsheet', which caters for the better educated readers, or a 'popular paper' or 'tabloid' which caters for a much larger readership. The popular papers contain far less print than the quality newspapers and far more pictures. They use larger headlines and write in a simpler style of English. Broadsheets devote more space to politics and other serious news, while the tabloids concentrate on human interest stories.
Find an example of each and make a note of the headlines as they appear on the front page. What are the differences? What other news/information do the papers contain, eg weather, tv programmes etc?
